Vietnam's ministry of agriculture and rural development said that in August 2017, Vietnam's water exports amounted to $749 million, according to Vietnam's ministry of agriculture and rural development. Exports of Vietnamese aquatic products totaled $5.13 billion in the first eight months, up 18.1% from the same period in 2016.

The United States, Japan, China and South Korea are the big four import markets for Vietnamese aquatic products, accounting for 55.6% of Vietnam's water exports. Vietnam's total volume of exports to China, Japan, the UK, South Korea, the Netherlands and Canada all showed rapid growth, with growth of 57.2%, 30.8%, 30.1%, 28.8%, 25.3% and 20.7% respectively.

On the import side, imports of Vietnamese aquatic products amounted to about $142 million in August 2017. Imports of aquatic products totaled $912 million in the first eight months, up 31.3 percent year on year.
